"WHAT IF IT WERE YOU?"
Kristof makes a well developed argument in the article "The Statue of Liberty Must Be Crying With Shame", he starts with the point that Jesus was a refugee, so if he lived in the 21st century, he would not be able to get into the "Land of the Free". Kristof argues that we are repeating what we did in WW2 with the jewish refugees. We are getting afraid, and when we get afraid, we close our doors. Kristof pulls numbers and spine-chilling facts "Among refugees admitted to the U.S. since 9/11, there has been about one arrest for terrorism offenses for every 250,000 refugees, according to the Migration Policy Institute. Then again, by my back-of-the-envelope calculations there’s maybe a 100-times greater likelihood that, say, a Floridian will turn out to be a murderer over a 10-year period than that a refugee will attempt terrorism. So if we’re willing to allow Floridians free entry into other states, allowing Syrian refugees shouldn’t be a problem."(Kristof). Kristof's argument is clear, and the development was well sought out and has gripping facts and theories that will make readers reconsider their stand on the homeless people who have been through enough.
