"Refugees who could be us"
Nicholas Kristof "Refugees who could be us"In this article Kristof starts off explaining a drowning of a Syrian child. Kristof tells his opinion of the crisis that is happening in the middle east with polysyllabic words and a passionate tone. Kristof's passionate and forceful tone are portrayed when he talks about how little the United Nations are doing to help Syria in the civil war. We, (The U.S) have only taken in 1,500 refugees, but taking them in only means letting them cross the border. After they come, we are barely helping them and trying to give them shelter and places to work. HIs polysyllabic words of the reality that is going on in Syria can seem like a slap in the face. My favourite quote of the whole article is "Just because it isn’t happening here doesn’t mean it isn’t happening." There is also a youtube video that puts the UK in the same situations as Syria that puts things into perspective for people who aren't living in a war zone.
